Moduli (“Modules”), like Patroni, emerged from a precise necessity: to make painting an enveloping experience and always site-specific. To achieve this, I first had to move beyond the format — rectangular, square, or circular − and the predetermined depth of the stretcher. I was seeking a physical depth rather than an illusory one. It was necessary to escape the trenches of representation and the fate of the decorative object, to which painting is so often relegated.

The Modules are works made to scale, architectural models, wall sculptures. An idea of modular painting. Their jagged forms recall the lacunae of frescoes, their missing parts, erased by time. They are my way of confronting the painting of the past by imagining it anew. An exercise in reconstructing images that are no longer visible.
